Starting UPSC at 28 — too late?
I'm 28, working in IT for 5 years. Always wanted to give UPSC but kept postponing. Now I have 4 attempts left. Is it realistic to clear in first or second attempt at this stage?

Cleared at 31 in my 3rd attempt. 28 is absolutely fine. Your work experience gives you maturity for the interview and real-world examples for Mains. It's an advantage, not a disadvantage.
I started at 29 after 6 years in banking. The domain knowledge helped immensely for Economy and Governance answers. Cleared in 2nd attempt. Don't let age be an excuse.
Average age of selection is 26-28 anyway. Many toppers are 28-30. The exam doesn't discriminate by age — only by preparation quality.
One practical tip: if you're working, don't quit immediately. Prepare for 6-8 months alongside the job, then take leave for the last 4-5 months. Financial stress kills preparation.
I'm 32, giving my last attempt. Started at 29. No regrets. Even if I don't clear, the knowledge and discipline I've gained has made me a better person. The journey itself has value.
